WHY…fairytalesandcoffee?

As a kid, I loved reading fairy tales, myths and horror stories, and just about any story that involved magic, science fiction, or the supernatural, and I still do.  As an adult,  I have to temper my desire for all things magical, beautiful, and mysterious with the reality and responsibilities of the modern world where career, family, relationships, health, and finances don’t follow the fairy tale trope.

But I can dream! 🙂

WHAT…blog?

I like shiny.   I like colorful.   My blog will be about anything that interests me, like beauty products and accessories, books and movies, and whatever randomness as it comes along.

WHO…me?

Gender: Female

Location: U.S.

Ethnicity: Latina (Dominican-Puerto Rican)

Age: Substantive relationships? My real age.  Other than that – “I’ll never tell” (Brittany Murphy voice)

Natural Skintone: Light-medium; yellow with green undertone.

Foundation Reference: MAC NC 25, MAC Face & Body C2-C3, Urban Decay Naked 4.0, Revlon Colorstay Golden Beige, Maybelline FIT 220, Origins Stay Balanced Warm Beige, Origins Plantscription Light-Warm, Make Up Forever HD 123, Becca Luminous Skin Nude, Camel, and Olive, Givenchy Éclat Mattisime Mat Honey, Jemma Kid Light As Air Light-Medium, Gorgeous Cosmetics Base Perfect 1Y

Tanning Quotient:   Untanned skin burns very quickly and then tans yellow-olive brown not orange.

Skincare Focus: Combatting oily skin, large pores in t-zone and adult hormonal acne;  removing post inflammatory hyperpigmentation marks and melasma;  preventing environmental damage

Hair Type: Abundant,  fine to medium thickness that is prone to dryness and frizziness.

Fun Facts

Childhood:  I was an 80’s kid and I loved watching Voltron, Smurfs, She-Ra, Thundercats, and Ghostbusters cartoons…I was a Saturday morning cartoons kid.

Adulthood: I watched Spongebob Squarepants, Fairly Odd Parents, and Danny Phantom regularly for a while…DON’T YOU JUDGE ME! 🙂  I blame my young nephew..who quickly grew out of it…even though I did not…’til a few years back.  Look, they are great de-stressors! *Hides*

Handedness: Lefty baby!  The evil is strong in this one!

Random

I love collecting pretty stationary and other colorful paper products (notepads, notebooks, planners, journals)

I am obsessed with organization but I am predisposed to making messes

Despite my love of color, I can only really comfortably SLEEP around certain shades of blue

I love ALL colors but my favorite color to wear is gray

  1. Enjoying your blog immensely, especially the industry posts. I was a brand manager for a global beauty company and get the concept of social ambition.Do you ever share what industry you’re in? Looking forward to more.

    • Professional degree – still don’t feel comfortable saying which one, what kind. In time, I may eventually reveal – I think. Thanks so much! I am still a little bummed by my blog. The closet overachiever in me wants to do more and doesn’t think it is up to snuff, the out in the open lazy person is currently biding my time. I am still learning ins and outs of blogging. I don’t know why I thought social media would be SO EASY – it is NOT! But that’s what’s so cool. My own little pet project and learning experience I have full control over 🙂

      • Please keep at it! Your writing is sharp, funny and personally I think you’ve got a great mix of topics. What you’re up against now is not knowing what you don’t know, but your greater enemy will be endurance. They say it takes 6 mos to a year to get steam, so pace yourself, give yourself permission to fail so you can take risks and don’t get too crazy about stats just yet. What’s kept my sanity is trying to focus only on the content and keeping a running brainstorm list of topics I want to write about. Write what inspires you and try not to get caught up in what other bloggers are doing (which can make you crazy in the beauty space). If it helps, I have no idea what I’m doing either, just trying to figure it out as I go along.

      • Yeah, I am concerned about losing steam…there may be a lull eventually. My biggest issue is tackling the bigger conceptual posts. I have several in draft form but don’t dare post ’em until I get the kinks out. An annoying issue is structure and visual appeal, as well as not being so flip. I can keep creating and burning until I have the right “structure” in place, but I think this is so new to me that getting stuck on form/structure should be secondary to content. BTW – I love your format – truly distinct with personality. It is nice to call something completely my own without having to follow someone else’s rules. Even more awesome to do it where there are tons of sounding boards! Yay for blogging community! 🙂

      • You’ve made my day to hear that, but I will tell you that I think everyone feels like they’re blogging in a closet, especially at the beginning. (And let me clarify again that I have no idea what I’m doing). Keep at it, it takes a lot of trial, error and practice. No one did this perfectly at the beginning, and if you’re not failing now and then you’re not trying hard enough:) (Motivational slogan found on Pintrest).

There’s a site called Yeah Write that has writing contests that may help because it’s just nice to get structured feedback. http://yeahwrite.me/

Hang in there, and feel come back to vent.

    • Awesome! Thanks! PS – I LOVE LAURA MERCIER beauty aesthetic! – She has an AWESOME shade range collection but she still has gaps within the light and light-medium range that could be filled in with olive undertones! Nude and Sand don’t match! 😦 There is my plug! Inspire from within! 🙂 YAY!!!!

    • It’s really ridiculous because I will have multiple journals, planners, and notebooks because of the color or design of the cover…Yes, I have several lying around – unused. And I recently bought another one in lime-green from Rollbahn – and not even in a size I would want but it was the only size it came in. And yes, I got it because it was lime green.

      • I feel for you. I’m exactly the same. I had to stop buying new stationery stuff recently because this house is too small, but I’m suffering like hell. 😦

  2. Hi! Wow I love this blog its so cool! Such a nice read and cool pics! I’m still really new at this but would love it if you’ll go check out my blog as well and maybe give it a thumbs up or follow 🙂
